When I shall look upon the face
of Christ, upon his throne,
and I shall stand before him
in judgment, all alone,
then no longer shall I hide behind
another faltering man,
but answer only for myself,
for how I've used life's span.
I'll not be able then to blame
my brother, where I've failed,
nor say, "Temptations far too great,
my poor, weak soul assailed!"
For he promised grace to overcome
to all who only call;
and so, I'll answer all alone
for every sin and fall.
But if I labor faithfully
and rid myself of pride,
confessing all my sins to him,
and nothing, try to hide~
Someday I'll stand before him
judged for myself alone,
and rapturous joy will then be mine
if he but says, "Well done!"

Lest I Forget
Give me grace to bear my cross
and to live each day for Thee,
lest I forget the cross you bore
and died upon for me.
Help me walk each day, by faith,
with eyes fixed fast on thee,
lest I forget your unswerving course
toward a hill called Calvary.
Make me, with a steadfast hope,
see that eternal home so fair,
lest I forget and not be waiting
for your coming in the air.
Lest I forget, and let the world
my loyalties all to claim,
keep before me, Jesus, always~
There is no sweeter name.
and to live each day for Thee,
lest I forget the cross you bore
and died upon for me.
Help me walk each day, by faith,
with eyes fixed fast on thee,
lest I forget your unswerving course
toward a hill called Calvary.
Make me, with a steadfast hope,
see that eternal home so fair,
lest I forget and not be waiting
for your coming in the air.
Lest I forget, and let the world
my loyalties all to claim,
keep before me, Jesus, always~
There is no sweeter name.
The Fight of the Weak
In church one Sunday morning,
a sinner sat and heard
the story of salvation
from the Holy Word.
He heard the gentle knocking
of the Spirit at his heart~
then from the pew behind him
he heard the faintest whisper start.
His attention wandered back and forth
from the pulpit to the pew,
first he felt convicted,
then he'd notice something new.
He heard a stifled giggle
mute the teaching of the cross~
then with the bread of Heaven before him
he saw someone toss
a crumpled paper on the floor~
and as the spirit still
moved in his heart
someone else banged out the door!
I'll walk out too, the sinner thought,
and rushing out, pell-mell,
he ran from the Holy Spirit
and stepped out into hell!
Now, Christian friend, the moral
of it all is sad put plain~
The one you disturb with foolishness
may never hear the Word again!
