RESTORE UNTO ME
When Christ became his saviour, and joy filled up his heart,
He vowed, "from service to my King, I never shall depart.
I'll guard with jealous, fervent zeal, the joy I know today;
I'll make sure I walk with Him each step along the way.
I'll not let Satan steal away the peace that makes me sing.
He'll not rob me of my joy in Christ, in one single, little thing!"
This vow was great and he kept it 'till one sad and dismal day,
His mind was filled with other things, and he forgot to pray!
An unkind word, then, from a friend, made him speak in anger too,
Then he turned his back upon the Lord, it seemed the thing to do!
Gone now, was his joy and peace; gone too, his songs of praise;
Misery filled his gloomy heart; he walked through dismal haze.
Till at last, it seemed he heard a voice say, " I'm still your friend,
I never will forsake you; I'll be with you till the end.
I loved you when I died for you; my child, I love you still.
Then he gave an anguished, burdened cry," Lord, fill me with thy will!
Forgive me my trespasses, restore my joy and peace,
Give me back my zeal, and a song that will not cease!
And help me, Lord, to remember, as I walk with you each day,
How satan never had a chance till I forgot to pray!

True Rest

TRUE REST
I thought I'd labored faithfully
And done my very best;
And so I turned aside awhile,
For just a little rest.
Then it seemed, on Sunday morning,
As I tarried there in bed;
A sad voice said, "The Son of Man,
Hath not where to lay His head".
Then I said, "I've given all I can;
Don't expect me to do more".
But the Word just seemed to shout at me,
"For your sake, He was poor."
"But oh, how much I've suffered,
In this weary, pilgrim land;
Then it seemed I saw Him silently
Hold forth a nail-scarred hand!
"But think of all the ridicule;
Why some folks even sneer!
And if anyone should ever laugh - - -
Oh, I live in daily fear!"
Then I heard, it seemed, a laughing mob;
"Crucify Him" they all cried!
I seemed to hear their cursing jeers,
While the loving Saviour died!
"But at least," I thought, "I've done as much
As some who seem asleep".
"What is that to thee?" He said
"If you love me, feed my sheep".
Then after searching heart and soul,
I knew, instead of rest
Away from service to my Lord,
I ought to give my best.
True rest is found in service,
Where the burden's truly light,
And the yoke is much more easy
When we share it with His might!
