THE DIAMONDS OF THE HEART

From the heart of the tiny infant,
There springs a wealth untold;
Each tear that flows down cheek so warm;
Worth more than all earth’s gold.

In the corner of the maiden’s eye,
Shines a jewel fair,
When the sadness of a broken heart
Brings a teardrop there!

And who could say how great the worth
Of tears that mothers shed
As they pray for those they love so much,
Each night beside their beds.

And from the heart that’s broken;
(‘gainst the black velvet of our grief,)
There spills the priceless gems of tears;
A treasure of relief!

But the greatest diamonds of the heart
Came while loved ones slept,
As tears fell in the Garden,
Where Jesus prayed and wept.

No man could ever pay the price;
No, not even start,
To pay for e’en the smallest
Of the diamonds of His heart!

Each tear He shed, a diamond;
Through all ages shall they shine
For me, because I’ve taken Him;
This treasure now is mine!
