WHO IS GREATEST?


Who, of all the members
Of the church where you belong,
Is the greatest in the eyes of God:
The strongest of the strong?


Is it the one who boasts the loudest
Of his labors for the Lord?
Or, the one who memorizes
More verses from the word?


Or, Maybe one who says, “I’ve spent
More years than all the rest
In service for the Master,
So surely I am best!”


Or maybe the most important
Is one who thinks he doesn’t need
The fellowship and help of all
To sow the precious seed!


Now some might think the preacher
Far above the rest;
And others say the deacons
Fill the place that is the best.


But the church’s greatest members,
As they labor in the Word,
Are the ones who humbly serve Him,
Simply ‘cause they love the Lord!
