PASS IT ON
The lighted torch now in our hands
Is not one new ablaze,
Those now fallen were handed it,
Ready lit in other days.
They took it from their fathers’ hands,
And they in turn from others;
From hand to hand the lamp is passed,
From sisters and from brothers.
Now we in kind must hand it on,
‘Ere we from life have passed,
‘Til all the bearers gather home,
Around the throne at last.

OF MONUMENTS AND WELLS
OF MONUMENTS AND WELLS
Tell us, oh great pyramid,
Mighty tombstone of the past,
What lasting good your builder did,
Whose bones you once held fast?
How many men of Jacob's seed
On desert sands did fall,
‘Ere this monument to pride and greed,
rose solid, strong, and tall?
Only scholars know your builder now,
Useless cenotaph, you stand
In silent testimony , how
Once he ruled this land!
The fathers of those wretched slaves,
Who built you for your king,
Are remembered, though in unmarked graves;
Of their deeds, their children sing!
Pharaoh's name is seldom mentioned,
But of Jacob, men still tell;
Pharaoh built a useless monument,
But Jacob built a well.

Over There
OVER THERE
Over the hill of life,
Beyond the great divide,
Across the river and through the vale,
There lies a land so wide.
No clouds or darkness dim the light
Of its eternal day;
The flowers bloom and never die
Along each shining way.
No graveyard there, nor funeral hymn
To sadden any heart;
Where friend holds fellowship with friend,
Nevermore to part.
In the fruitful fields, no tares will grow;
There's no such word as ‘sin';
No sickness, harm or danger
Can ever enter in.
In this land, there is a City;
Its streets are purest gold;
Its walls of jasper, gleaming'
What glory to behold!
The Lamb is the light of that City
And the Tree of Life is there;
And the river's gently flowing,
And there never falls a tear!
Your passport and your ticket
To this bright promised land
Is yours just for the taking
From the Saviour's pierced hand!

A CHRISTIAN DICTIONARY
A CHRISTIAN DICTIONARY
Bigot - One obstinately attached to his own Church, Party, Belief, or Opinion
Lord, I would be a ‘bigot', not soon shaken or removed,
But obstinately standing on your word, though by the world reproved.
Not like a reed that's shaken by every changing wind,
But like a tree that's firmly planted, let me, solid, stand.
Fanatic - A person affected by excessive enthusiasm, especially on religious subjects.
A ‘fanatic' in the eyes of man, is what I want to be;
They thought my Lord a fanatic too, yet He died to set me free.
I need a zeal, an inner fire, to always spur me on,
Lest I not be ‘fanatic', and find enthusiasm gone.
Prejudice - Preconceived judgment or opinion
Prejudice, Lord, is what I need, to close my ears and mind
‘Gainst Satan's subtle reasoning, and only Your will find.
All my judgment ‘preconceived', to never heed the call
When Satan says "Let's reason", and for his tricks not fall.
Let men call me ‘narrow-minded' or, ‘a strict old-fashioned fool',
Or even call me silly to keep the golden rule.
The world is filled with critics, and they're never satisfied;
You're either a ‘fanatic' or a ‘hypocrite', So, by the Lord be justified.
I care not what men may call me as through this world I go,
If someday You call me ‘Faithful' for work done here below.
