It Pays To Serve Jesus

"Come on and join us" cried the crowd,
We're gonna have a ball!
We're gonna kick our heels up
and drink our fill of alcohol!

We're gonna do most anything
our lustful hearts desire.
We'll shove all thoughts of God aside
and forget about Hell's fire!

But the young folks walking close to God
said, "Our lives belong to Him,
our bodies are his temple
we'll not make a ruin of them".

When at last the party ended
and the revelry was all past,
the things that had seemed so much fun
took on a different cast.

Pleasure for a little while
brought shame that stained a life,
and memories (the few seen through the haze)
cut conscience like a knife.

But those who walked with Jesus
awoke to face the day
with eyes and heart and mind still bright;
What more need we say?

Godliness IS profitable
A life for Him DOES pay.
Not only in the judgment,
but each step along the way!

The Hypocrite's Prayer

Yes Lord, you know I love you~
Surely you know I do.
I do all the the things you ask me,
{except for one or two.}

Almost every Sunday morning
I go to church, you know,
{'cept sometimes I go fishing
or take the kids up to the snow.}

And you know I give to support the work
{if there's anything left to spare
after paying for the things I want}
But at least you know I care!

And I try to keep my kids in church
but there's so many other things,
like dances, games and parties
and sit~ins and "happenings'!

And after all, they're young just once
and children must have fun,
{'course one is in reform school~
I don't know where he got that gun~}

Yes Lord, I love you very much
but you know on Wednesday nights
the very best shows are on T.V.~
There's cowboy shows and fights!

And on every Sunday evening~
Well, I'd really like to go,
but I can't seem to wake up from my nap~
But I love you Lord, you know!

Why, last week I told a friend,
{I've known him 'bout a year}
that I'm supposed to be a Christian
and I couldn't join him in a beer.

And if he should ever ask me
the way of eternal life?
Well, I've got the preacher's number somewhere,
or I'll have him ask my wife.

Yes Lord, you know I love you
and I'll prove it all someday,
{If I can but discover
some easy, pleasant way!}

Which Is Worse?

"There is no God", says the foolish heart,
But is he less a fool
Who says, "I know there is a God,
But my life he'll never rule!?"

"God is dead." says another fool
But how foolish is the heart
Who says, "He lives and controls the universe,
But in my life he has no part!"?

How easy to condemn the one
Who says, "The Bible is a lie."
But what about the one who says,
"Oh, I believe,~ and I'll serve him by and by!"?

If one calls Christ 'impostor',
And another says, 'He's not!',
Yet neither will accept him
Will the one find hell less hot?

Or, if a man says, "I'm saved and love him."
Yet never will obey,
Will he find real peace and happiness
each step along the way?

God is real, He ever lives!
His Word is wholly true,
Let his Son, the living Christ come in,
Let His will be done in you!
