STRENGTH TOGETHER

A friendly pat upon the back;
A simple word of cheer;
Can ofttimes chase away the blues
And drive away our fears.

A sympathizing tear, sometimes,
Can help assuage our grief;
To hear our name in prayers of friends,
Can bring such sweet relief

A friendly exhortation
To stay close by the side
Of Christ, when given by a friend.
Can help, whate'er betide.

Never can we measure
The help our friends may be
But the greatest joy I ever knew,
Was when a friend was helped by me!

As I spake to cheer him up, I found
I, too, was lifted up;
As I exhorted him to walk with Christ,
We shared a common cup.

Now help me to remember, Lord,
That any fool can trip a friend;
But it takes strength to hold him up,
And be strengthened in the end.
