Easter Sunday

Easter is past
and all the land o'er
holiday worshipers
never darken the door.

They came in their finery
and my how they sang!
Song after song
the rafters just rang!

They said they enjoyed it
and were all greatly blessed
and were, oh so sorry,
for all the blessings they'd missed.

Most of them said they
would come back real soon~
then hurried away
for a quiet afternoon.

Then, Sunday by Sunday,
the year flitted by,
but the crowds of last Easter
never drew nigh.

Some came for a funeral
once during the year,
and vowed again to be faithful
through sorrow and tear.

And on Mother's Day several
came back again,
and once, in a revival
we saw eight or ten.

But mostly the blessings
in the home and the pew
all the year long
belonged to a few.

Well, maybe next Easter,
if Christ doesn't come before then,
we'll see all of those folks
back in Church once again!
