LABOR DAY

Labor day is not a religious holiday. Instead, it is a day in which
the efforts and contributions of the worker to society are to be recognized.
Yet, the Bible does have much to say as to the virtue of honest labor. Beginning with the proclamation of God after the fall (Gen. 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.)
Even in the very Garden of Eden, it was the decree of God that man should earn his keep on this planet. (Gen 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.)
While man's labor may vary and every task is useful, it is in the labor in the Lord's vineyard that man reaches the highest culminating point of his purpose. I Cor 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

It is with this labor in mind that these poems were written.

All The Time

Help me Lord, to take thy yoke,
And, serving by your power,
Labor in thy vineyard
Each minute of each hour.

Help me to receive thy grace;
Walk boldly in thy way,
And feel thy hand upon me
Each hour of every day.

Help me too, to take MY cross,
And not another's seek;
Make me know my place to serve
Each day of every week.

Help me always love the lost,
And seeking them with tears,
Bring many souls to Calvary
As weeks pass into years.

I would be thy servant, Lord,
Throughout eternity;
But help me NOW redeem the time
By using it for thee.

My Co-Worker

If no man stood beside me
In the vineyard of the Lord,
And I labored without earthly friend
To take the lost his word.
Still, I'd have a helper;
I'd not struggle on alone,
For the Lord would bear the heaviest
Of the work, and lead me on.

He lets me help him; blessed privilege!
He lets me serve him; glorious thought!
(From man's weak puny efforts,
What wonders He has wrought!)

Side by side in labor,
As I follow his command,
He never shall forsake me,
And I feel His guiding hand.
My burden's always lighter
When I labor WITH the Lord,
And serve Him in His vineyard
According to His word.

WOULDN'T IT?

Wouldn't it be wonderful,
If without my help at all,
The Lord would make me perfect,
So that I could never fall?
And
Wouldn't it be something
If lost souls could be won,
While I relaxed in comfort,
And had a lot of fun?
And
If I didn't have to give a thing;
If service cost no price;
I could spend my means on pleasure;
Wouldn't that be nice?
No!
It wouldn't be so wonderful
And not so nice at all!
If service were so easy,
It's pleasure soon would pall.
But,
True pleasure's found in giving,
And my ALL would not suffice,
To make a dent in what I owe,
For His great sacrifice

THEY

Everybody knows 'They' run things.
What 'They' decide, gets done.
'They' make all the decisions.
It's by 'them' the church gets run.

But then, 'They' seem to do all the labor
whenever there's a job to be done.
('Course when it comes to picnics and things,
Then 'We' all join in the fun!

'They' visit, 'They' pray and 'they' study -
For the Faith 'They' constantly stand.
If 'They' are doing so much, then maybe 'We'
should pitch in and give 'Them' a hand.

For someday 'We' will all give account,
And 'We'll' see on His face, smiles or frowns,
And 'We' might envy 'Them' on that day
If 'They' win all of the crowns.
