MY DWELLING PLACE

Lord, I would dwell each day in Thee -
While nations war and kingdoms fall;
There is a peace belongs to me -
It soothes the soul and conquers all.
I would know this wondrous peace -
Find from sin this sweet release.

Before You gave the mountains birth,
Or hung the stars in distant space,
Or yet brought Adam from the earth,
You made provision for his race -
Provision for man's soul, eternal,
That he might know Thy joys, supernal.

Into this joy and peace I come,
not to visit for a while,
But to find in Thee a home
And seek from Thee a treasured smile.
From all evil I would hide -
Let me, Lord, in Thee abide.
