AFTER WHILE
When the silver cord is broken,
And life’s struggles are no more,
And the years of life but token
Waves, breaking gently on the shore
Of eternity’s endless ages,
Where each tiny grain of sand
Speaks with wisdom of the sages
Of the Master’s mighty hand;
When the songs of heaven’s chorus
Fall sweetly on our ears,
And we see that heavenly city
Through eyes not dimmed with tears;
Then, perhaps, we’ll know the fullness
Of the Glory of His love
That fitted us, throughout our lives,
For such a home above!
Then we’ll understand each heartache,
Every burden we’ll lay down,
When every tear becomes a jewel
And every cross a crown!
I may not know the answers now,
But someday, after while,
I’ll understand, and thank my Lord,
When I walk that final mile!
