I Would Follow

I WOULD FOLLOW

It might be for the loaves and fishes
That some would call you 'Lord',
But they soon turn to other things
When burdened by your word.

Others may follow as long as the crowd
Makes it the popular thing to do;
But soon the multitude goes away,
And then they turn aside too.

Some might seek for wealth and position,
And so speak your name in prayer,
But then if wealth and fame do come,
They're soon swallowed up with care.

So, help me, Lord, to follow
And in you to abide;
Not for loaves and fishes;
And e'en when others turn aside.

But simply because I love you,
With the love you showed to me,
When you refused to turn aside
From the cross of Calvary.
