GOD IS GOOD TO ME

I thought that God had forgotten me,
And no blessings would bestow,
Because the way looked dark ahead,
I couldn’t see the way to go.

Because of this and worldly cares,
I wandered far from God;
And remembered not the troublesome ways,
The saints of old had trod.

Then I wandered down a certain street,
The sights of earth to see.
The things I saw, made me realize,
That God is good to me.

First I saw a drunkard,
Like him I now might be,
But for the blood of Jesus;
God is good to me.

Then I saw a beggar,
One leg gone at the knee,
I had no money, but again I thought;
God is good to me.

I saw the people swarming by,
In their lust and revelry;
Down the street they went, bound for hell,
But God is good to me.

If they only knew my Jesus,
And the garden of Gethsemane,
Then they might say as I can say;
God is good to me.

Then to my home I traveled,
And with my children ‘round my knee,
I counted all my blessings;
God is good to me.

First, I have eternal life,
‘Twas given to me free,
And a life on earth, with a chance to work
For God, who is good to me.

And someday, when this life is done;
A better land I’ll see,
And sing forever, ‘Amazing Grace’!
God is good to me!
