THE SCARLET IN THE PURPLE ROBE
If time were a royal, purple robe,
And heaven were a throne,
And earth be made a footstool;
Then where is mercy shown?
In the purple, Praise His Holy Name,
Is woven a scarlet thread!
It tells me of His precious blood
And the cross where it was shed.
In majesty, then, find Mercy.
In His holy demands, see Hope.
In the purple there runs a scarlet thread,
As strong as any rope!
'Though He be the Prince of Life,
And man, in sins, be dead;
There's hope, for in the purple robe
There runs a scarlet thread.
