THE SCARLET THREAD
On the wall of time, hangs a tapestry;
Each thread, a human life.
It seems, at first, a senseless tangle
Full of darkness, sin and strife.
Then, through the whole, a scarlet thread
Brings order to the scene.
It brightens up the darkness,
Gives beauty to the mean.
It touches one thread; an ark is built;
Then another! a nation appears;
Still others and defeats become victories
And promises are seen through the tears.
Through ages, dark with vile persecution;
O'er land and 'cross seas, it does twine,
Circling thread after thread, bringing beauty,
'Till it touches the one that is MINE!
Then, I see in the center, as bright as the sun,
A cross. And like rays that are shed,
From eternity to eternity, giving hope and light
From there comes the Scarlet Thread!
