"QUOTE"
A man can learn to speak in 'quotes',
From Shakespeare, take a line,
And other folks will marvel,
"He's educated fine!"
He can quote a few philosophers,
With meaning all obscure,
And others, will, in ignorance, shout,
"He's wise, and that's for sure!
He quotes a politician
And he's 'socially aware';
He repeats the words of radicals
And, "he's only being fair".
To show that he's a gentle soul,
A sonnett will always do,
And to manifest 'religion',
a 'theological' quote or two.
But he who says, "Thus saith the Word"
And on the Bible, takes a stand,
Is often thought to be a fool,
And rejected out of hand!
But earth and all its 'wisdom'
Will someday pass away
And then, it will be manifest;
The Bible's here to stay.

This one made me smile as I remembered a teacher many years ago who insisted that we memorize hundreds of quotes by famous people. His theory was that if you could accurately quote them you would sound well educated and reflect well upon his teaching.
Funny thing is, I remember those quotes now but not what class they were for English or History?
