A STANDARD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

I saw a Christian stumble;
He’d committed quite a sin!
“Why, I’m as good as he!”, I thought,
And wouldn’t let Christ in.

I watched the preacher and the deacons -
All their faults were clear to see -
They sure weren’t perfect, and I thought,
“Why, they’re sinners, just like me!”

Then from the pages of the Bible,
God pointed out His Son
And said, “Don’t judge yourself by other men,
But by the Holy One!”

Then, when I saw God’s perfect man,
The truth was clear to see-
The ones I had been hiding behind,
WERE sinners, just like me!

To be as good as other men,
Is not a worthy goal,
It takes His imputed righteousness
To save a sinful soul!
