IN CALVARY’S DARKNESS
When at last, the mocking laughter
Is muffled in the dark,
And the screams of ‘Crucify Him!’
Have forever left their mark;
More precious far than rubies,
The last blood-drop falls down,
And the King of kings, so noble,
Wears a thorny crown.
Forsaken by the Father;
Despised by wicked men;
He cries at last “It is finished”
And He bows his head, and then - -
When all of this is over,
And the Temple veil is rent,
And the earth begins to tremble
Like a man with strength all spent!
Then, “Truly, this was the Son of God!”
With terror, comes the cry
From those who nailed Him to the cross,
And watched Him slowly die.
Now, He’s won His final victory;
The sin debt all is gone!
Through death, He bought man life and peace;
By dying - All alone!
